THE BOOK OF LIVERPOOL CATHEDRAL - By V. E. Cotton - Hardback Book

£25.00

This book tells the story of two cathedrals. In the main, it is the description of a cathedral still unfinished yet the largest in England, on which building has gone on for sixty years without interruption despite the two greatest wars in history. But it is also the story of the Cathedral that never was, the design for which won for the youthful Giles Gilbert Scott, competing against many of England's leading architects, the commission to build a cathedral in Liverpool. Of this winning design, virtually no stone was ever built, as the architect with his unquenchable thirst for perfection, continuously revised his plans and elevations until today's building bears no resembalnce whatever to the original conception. Illustrated with black and white photographs.
