KLIMT: BEETHOVEN - By Jean-Paul Bouillon - Softback Book - ISBN: 0847808149

£12.00

THE FRIEZE FOR THE NINTH SYMPHONY. Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was the major artist and dominant persoality of the Viennese avant-garde in the years around 1900. For over half a century after Klimt's death, the paintings of the Beethoven Frieze remained unseen and all but forgotten in a private home in Switzerland. These paintings were then purchased in 1972 by the Austrian government and carefully restored. For the first time since their resurrection, they are reproduced here in color in their entirety, together with the preliminary designs, some related paintings, and period photographs of their initial presentation in the Klimt Room at the 1902 Secession exhibition.
